B-Boying

http://www.ukbboy.info/forum/topic/16214-just-jam-international-2012/

I am at a loss for words!!

I started coming to Just Jam in 2010, just to see what all the hype was about (heard some good stuff from friends about it). When I went I loved it!

In 2011 I went again to Just Jam because I wanted to see if it could be any better than before…it was! I was amazed at what took place, plus I was filming there and I documented my travels!

This time though? I have no idea how it’s going to turn out…but some nasty shit is going to go down! Poe One is coming to judge; many other European B-Boys are battling…and my homie Daniel Zhu is coming to film with me!!

Here’s to Just Jam, hope it’s the best one ever! 🙂

Last weekend I was in St. Helens, near Livepool, to film a dance event (post will come soon). While I was there I got the chance to chill with a well-known dancer called Tawfiq, from Holland!

This was a tutorial he made for me, so I could upload it to Strife.tv and show something different to the world.

Don’t worry, I’m not expecting everyone here to actually know how to do this. I assume most of my blog followers are enthusiasts of dance now, and don’t dance to this level, I forgive you all! 🙂

When I was filming this Bonnie and Clyde event on Sunday, I hooked up with one of the judges (Just-Roc) and we decided to do some filming and an interview.

Justin actually lives through teaching kids and adults how to break, that’s how he earns his living. But yet he is probably one of the only UK B-Boys that travels so many times in one year to many different countries to dance (France, Switzerland, Spain, Korea, China etc).

So we spoke a bit about how he copes with living through breaking and what sacrifices he’s had to make in order to do what he loves.

While I was filming and editing this, it brought a lot of confidence and faith back into my filming! After the mixed reviews of the short film I recently did (All Tied Up! – please keep sharing this video for me!) I began to doubt whether I could make the transition from my regular filming to a more experimental/commercial route. This video I’ve done now was the first time I’ve attempted this style, and it was a lot of fun! You’ll most def be seeing more of these videos in the near future.

So with a huge thanks to Justin aka Just-Roc for agreeing to take part, I present to you his feature “Living the Break Life”.

Myself (right) with Just-Roc.

For those that may not know, there’s a B-Boy called Steelo (Style Elements/Killafornia/Groovaloos) who suffered from a brain aneurysm and 3 hemorrhages in June 2011 – and as a result he lost the ability to walk and speak.

There was a fundraiser that was held by his wife to raise money and awareness. The video describes everything that’s happened. Please watch.

Check this! One of the best, and most humble, in the game went to Prague to judge an event not long ago…and this happened. Even if I’ve never met him before, I’ve exchanged phone calls with him and I still stand by my judgement when I say he is a humble dude who can get along with just about anybody!

Anyway, he’s turning 42 tomorrow!! I’ve never seen someone his age move like he does in this video and still come up with fresh movements. It’s amazing. Also, the other B-Boys in this video (the Czech guys) are pretty damn good too.

Happy Birthday Poe!

I’ve not seen Casper dance in a minute, and he’s still FRESH!!

I believe he hasn’t been battling for a while, this is probably why I haven’t heard his name circulate recently or for the past few months. I love the edit on the video, and the music suits the mood of the video greatly.

I’ve always had respect for Casper, and this has definitely raised the game for video promos.

I just saw this battle on BboyWorld and was a bit ashamed to see that there was a lot of controversy over the judges decision for Roxrite to win (he took the whole event). People were saying that Cheerito should have won, but I’m going to give my own opinion of this battle:

Both were musical, but Rox flowed better. Rox also had better execution over the course of the battle – he hardly ever crashes! Cheerito had good energy but when the beat didn’t require him to dance fast, he still did. Couldn’t change the dynamics of his moves to suit the music but was still hitting some accents in the music. So gave that to Rox overall.

Plus, for those that are saying the DJ was wack, he was actually very good in this battle!! Played to a slower tempo but still kept some feeling to his beats, besides you can’t dance fast all the time that’s terrible!

For the next time you feel offended at someone else’s opinion about you, just read this:

“One of the worst things that we all do is get so upset about an opinion (including myself). We are always on the attack. The reality of life is… not everyone will like you or like the way you dance, deejay, play ball, etc. I’ve had some peeps say that I was dope, and I’ve heard others say I’m wack LOL Not everyone will understand you or understand what you’re doing. We are all unique human beings and we all go through different experiences. This is why we have different outlooks on life. It doesn’t make the situation right or wrong. There are times when we argue with the closest people (family/friends) in our lives. None of this really matters if you understand that we all have personal growth to go through. One day you may feel you’re right, and then later down in life you’ll see that you were wrong. If you know you’re making a difference to better your life, and trying your best to better the community… you should give opinions less meaning. Keep an open mind and keep learning yall! I been seeing a lot of my homies on here getting butt hurt over someone’s opinion, so I thought I would share this.” – Lean Rock
