For those that may not know, there’s a B-Boy called Steelo (Style Elements/Killafornia/Groovaloos) who suffered from a brain aneurysm and 3 hemorrhages in June 2011 – and as a result he lost the ability to walk and speak.

There was a fundraiser that was held by his wife to raise money and awareness. The video describes everything that’s happened. Please watch.

At my crew’s event this exhibition battle went on. Presto (Heavy Smokers) vs Kid Niall (Flyin’ Jalapenos).

I was really looking forward to this battle because they have some battle history (they’re always against each other when they both enter a battle), and cause they’re roughly matched in skill level it was going to make for an interesting battle!

I was meant to have a friend of mine help film every battle but she decided to get pneumonia instead (she could have said no lol). Luckily there was a friend of mine that was there for this battle, so I asked him to help me film this one!

Some of the other battles will be coming soon!

You know how long I’ve been waiting for a video like this to come out?! Since I got into Hip Hop – 4 years ago!!

Ice-T talks to rap artists such as Common, Nas, Raekwon, KRS-One, Xzibit, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Q-Tip, Mos Def, Chuck D and many other influential people in Hip Hop, such as Afrika Bambaata.

You get to hear from the masterminds behind Hip Hop’s greatest music as they speak about what Hip Hop is, what’s wrong with artists today and what Hip Hop has done for them as a cultural movement!

Get on it!!

MC Exposition – the MC in Audible Mainframe (Alternative Rap group) – recently passed away after suffering from cancer. I heard it earlier today. I like music from Audible Mainframe, and I’m sorry for their loss. He has a good tone in his voice and rhymes about good topics.

Rest in Power MC Exposition! Your music will live on through those that love your music – like myself.

I know this is the second thing in a row I’ve dropped from Teck but I think this is quite important.

The point to the cause started from a song that Common did called Sweet.

The song wasn’t meant to diss anyone in specific but to those that have made Hip Hop a soft trend (aka Drake). Drake took offence and took this is as a diss, since then the beef started.

For this video the purpose is to spread the word on soft people in society that are using Hip Hop to label their crap music that isn’t Hip Hop whatsoever.

If you live in the USA, you can cop a “Chicago vs Drake” teeshirt on the website here. I’m all for people trying to start a movement against the fake, the wack, and the soft!

I watched a video, on the TVHuslinG YouTube channel, and it was of a young dude who was MCing. Only problem was, I didn’t believe his bars. Everything he was writing about was about how he was running with glocks, and living a very difficult lifestyle.

For those that know Glasgow, the only crimes that are committed by kids are vandalism, muggings, and the occasional stabbing. If a kid was to run with a gun, it would be heard of on the news or something!

I called this guy out on it; I said something along the lines of “If you really run with guns your bars would make more sense”.

I got a comment back from the guy asking me if I could do any better. That’s funny! I probably could if I was actively writing. I believe that this is a guy that isn’t aware of the booming Hip Hop scene we have in Glasgow, or Scotland. If I was to start writing, I’d get help from those I know are killing it right now, THE BEING EMCEES!! But, it is really tempting to get back at the guy with some good authentic rhymes.

Which gets me to the point of this blog post; why are people writing about things that are not relevant to them or true? There are MC’s that have had a hard upbringing, and you hear it in their rhymes. There are MC’s that write about particular events, and write it well because it’s authentic. But when you get people – who have an education and an average upbringing – talking about guns and such? I mean, why?!

Rant over.

I’ve been filming B-Boys and battles since about 2009, I think I have enough experience to know when someone is filming an event in a good manner or not.

As a B-Boy, we understand the dynamics that are to come from people’s moves – the average person does not. Most of the time, it’s the average person that’s filming with professional cameras or professional equipment…and still manage to f*ck things up!

They either abuse the 180 degree rule; zoom in at the wrong times; use a dolly wrong or not have the camera at an appropriate angle.

It takes one to know one, so it takes a B-Boy to know how to film B-Boys. Don’t get me wrong, you do get some events that are filmed well like R16 2008, UK B-Boy Champs, but there’s quite a lot of people that are trying multiple camera action or using some other technique that just gives a terrible result.

They either miss the important parts because the camera’s focused on the other B-Boy or they don’t get the B-Boy in their vision for their whole run.

This would be a good example on what NOT to do. The crane takes some of the intensity away from Lil’ Jay’s first round, and the camera has been blocking the viewer’s view. Plus, please don’t put 1 camera on right side of bboy then switch to one on the other side. If someone is walking right then suddenly they’re walking left…that’s wack!

YAKFilms have been screwing with the 180 degree rule lately, but this is how it should be done!

This is my concern, organisers are thinking that by hiring some “professional” it’ll look better. If you’re making mistakes like this it isn’t going to look any better. Instead, look at who is filming the scene and get them to film your event.

Support your own!!

I can’t remember where I found this, but I found it!! It’s used in some breaking battles I have seen (can’t remember in person, but definitely online), and I can see how too. The drums aren’t overpowering, the bass still has presence even if it is a bit low in volume; it makes for an easy-listening song if you choose to listen to it with low volume. The woodwind adds another dimension I think, it’s really cool listening to funk tracks that have woodwind in. There’s a lot more people doing it now.

So, here’s “Na Palma Da Mão” by Banda União Black”.

If you’re feeling down, you can always pick yourself back up with funk! 1 love.
